Charity Project 2024: Join My Team!

House to Home

Outfitting a Tiny Home for a Senior Experiencing Chronic Homelessness

In 2023, SARAH (now known as Close to Home) allowed me to join their team in outfitting a tiny home at Towne Twin Village. Here’s a little more info about the two organizations!

Close to Home exists to ensure everyone has a place to call home. As the lead Continuum of Care (CoC) agency in San Antonio and Bexar County, they implement and manage the local systems that ensure a coordinated, collaborative approach across agencies to have accurate data and reporting, access to the most needed resources, and the best care for our neighbors. Close to Home’s Executive Director, Katie Wilson, has been a good friend of mine since our days working together at Haven for Hope many moons ago. How cool is it that a nonprofit team volunteered to help at another nonprofit?

Towne Twin Village initiates and sustains a Permanent Supportive Housing community using Housing First principles for the most marginalized and vulnerable individuals in the San Antonio region. Towne Twin Village provides over 200 homes, including a combination of tiny homes, apartments, and RVs. On-site, they provide:

  • Counseling

  • Case management

  • Medical, dental and mental health clinics

  • Meals and food pantry groceries

  • Barber and nail grooming

  • Community garden, dog park, recreation space

  • Connection to a wide variety of services

Now for the fun part!

I get to do it again!!! And even more fun, you can join me!!!

In early November 2024, I will be outfitting another tiny home for a senior experiencing chronic homelessness. This is a volunteer effort for me - I do not get paid for this project. In fact, I’ll be spending a good deal of my own funds and time on it. And I’m happy to! But I certainly need help to pull it off and make it special.

What a beautiful way to kick off the Thanksgiving season too, yeah? As someone who has a roof over my head, access to food, community support, the medical care I need, and an environment where I feel I can thrive, I want to help facilitate that security for someone else.

Will YOU be on my Team?

Here’s where you come in! I have a survey for those who are interested, which lets me know what type of support you’d like to provide (volunteering, donating, etc.). I will send more information to those who indicate interest through the survey.

Another option for helping with this project is to share the word! You can share this blog post with your contacts if you’d like. I also have a permanent page on my website that you can return to at any time and share with others. That page is located here. I will add more information to that page when it’s available. For now, I’m looking to build my team!
